The second of this season’s Sunderland & District domestic finals has been completed as this season’s Silver Jack’s final was played at Whitburn. This year’s final saw the Barley Mow father and son partnership of Bobby Sanderson & Brian Sanderson pit their wits against Roker Marine’s David Woodward & John Smith. The early exchanges were tightly fought as the Barley Mow duo led 8-5 after nine ends, over the next five ends Sanderson collected seven shots without reply to lead15-5 with only four ends to play. The next three ends saw Smith collect six shots without reply to leave Sanderson 15-11 ahead with one end to play, on the final end Smith’s chances of snatching a count diminished with every Barley Mow bowl and in the end the Barley Mow duo held on to take the title 15-12. This was the Sanderson’s first Silver Jack’s success and made up for the defeat in the final two seasons ago, it was also the Barley Mow club’s second Silver Jack’s title with the last being in 1974 when David Gibson & the late Jack Bulmer took the honours.
