Bowls Hall2

In 1977 Sunderland council embarked on building Crowtree Leisure Centre, within that public leisure centre on the second floor is an eight rink bowling facilty whereby the Sunderland Indoor Bowling was formed. HRH Prince Charles performed the offical opening of the centre. The club's mixed membership reached over 1,000 during its early days and although not being able to boast such figures today still enjoys a membership of around 450.

Bowls HallIn 2000 Her majesty the Queen awarded the town of Sunderland city status therefore to acknowledge the honour the bowls club changed its name to the City of Sunderland Indoor Bowling Club.

During its existence club members have enjoyed success at national and county level plus it has had several England internationals within its ranks.

This website is funded by the indoor club but provides a service to the complete bowling faternity within the Sunderland area as it hosts sections dedicated to the Sunderland & District Association and the Grindon League
